Just like the title promises, this movie feels very quiet, even though it tells a ‘loud’ story. I also really like the random cuts to flowers all throughout the movie, because it sets a kind of melancholic tone (a bit like Non Non Biyori does as well). I'm not going to try to analyze it, because others in this thread will probably do a way better job, but I’ll try to explain what it makes me feel nonetheless.įrom the very first scene, the movie really gripped me, because of the difficult subject matter and the way Yamada tells it subtly with very little dialogue. I can’t really identify with any of the characters and I don’t even really like the story that much (I prefer the story in the manga personally and the story in Your Name also hit me a bit harder). Well, this is one of my favourite movies of all time from one of my favourite directors of all time, yet I don't really know why.
